We are a group of lawyers, linguists, developers and engineers on a mission to simplify the legal translation process. We do this by blending AI, neural networks, big data, and natural language processing to deliver a suite of services and technologies that give near-native legal translation quality.
Our Story
Our Genesis
Bering Lab can be traced back to 2012 when Seong Moon practiced law in Seoul, Korea, where as a Foreign Attorney, he noticed that Associates and Interns were spending a lot of time translating legal documents, so he saw an opportunity to streamline the process.
The Early Days
Partnering with Jae Yoon Kim, a post-graduate Computer Science major in late 2018, we began our two year journey to build the world's most accurate legal AI translator from scratch. The result? First place in the World Machine Translation Competition 2020 that validated our domain-specific approach and Seed funding from Naver Corporation.
Breaking New Ground
In 2023, we rolled out our AI+ service, launched support for 7 major languages and hit record sales. Rounding off the year, Bering Lab beat out 1500 startups to win the Grand Prize at the Huawei Cloud Startup Ignite Competition. We also placed 1st in the domain finals and 1st runner up overall in the global SLINGSHOT competition from a pool of 4700 entrants.
Prior to starting Ivy Force (now Bering Legal) in 2012, Seong worked at Kim & Chang, Yoong & Yang, and Yulchon as an IP lawyer where he gained first-hand legal translation experience.
Seong holds a BA, Biological Basis of Behavior & Economics from the University of Pennsylvania and a Doctor of Law (JD) from the Northwestern University Pritzker School of Law.
